Never underestimate the importance of obtaining professional advice when preparing your Will.
All too often we deal with cases where individuals have attempted to prepare their own Wills only to realise it is completely ineffective. If such a document is drafted incorrectly it can be invalid leading to your estate passing to those individuals you’d rather didn’t receive a benefit!
Where an individual’s dies without a valid Will in England and Wales their estate will be administered in accordance with the intestacy laws. This will leave to distribution of the estate in accordance with statutory rules rather than a person’s wishes. It simply isn’t worth the risk.
