Recruitment

Adcocks can trace its roots right back to 1910 when Leonard Hedley Adcock started in practice in West Bromwich. From that day to now, our values have been the same:

Professionalism, integrity, trust, helpfulness and reliability.

Celebrating our centenary this year as we are, we  continue to promote those values and our ethos remains just the same. Because we know that clients value them, whatever other changes may be happening.

As our roots are in the industrial West Midlands, so a large proportion of our private clients emanate from there.  We recognise that and although all our productivity now takes place at our Lichfield site, we still have offices in West Bromwich and offer just the same personal service to clients there as we have always done. Modern means of communication lead us to offering new and more efficient lines of contact with clients, but despite this, we still offer all our clients personal consultation at any time.

Continuing our commitment to client satisfaction means we have to understand their needs. Above all, we know they want us to be available, contactable and in touch. Those are our  our key drivers. Regular communication with them delivers it. So in our staff, we look for people who recognize that  and are willing to go the extra mile, to reach out to clients.

Our specialist property work is growing faster than any otehr area. Our clients are drawn fom all over the UK and even from America.

In this world of specialization clients understand that we cannot do everything for them, all of the time. They respect us if we decline to act, but refer them on, in cases where we just cannot offer  the right level of  experience. But in the areas  of work we do undertake, we want not just to meet, but well exceed,  our clients expectation.

We have vacancies for two new lawyers. An exciting new post of Head of our Private client department and an assistant lawyer in our specialist property department. Please see below for more details of each position. The application process is not yet open but please watch this page for the closing date.

Please note - unsolicited Cvs from recruitment agencies will not be considered.

Head of Private Client DepartmentRef. number

Adcocks are currently located in central Lichfield, a pleasant Staffordshire City and we plan to stay locally but move to larger single floor premises during 2010.

We have a substantial private client department, predominantly drawn from the industrial West Midlands. This brings with it challenges in terms of the size of the administration of the estates undertaken and will in itself set challenges during the course of the next five years as market trends change.

We are looking to appoint a Solicitor of not less than three years PQE to manage and develop this department and to address the challenges which the firm faces as the demand for legal services changes.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sound experience in the administration of estates, preparation and completion of Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Lasting Powers of Attorney, registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney and Lasting Powers of Attorney and Receivership work. The post holder will also be expected to undertake a limited amount of property work relating to the estate administration but not the sale of residential properties which is assigned to a separate department.

The practice undertakes little trust work, but what is undertaken, will fall to be the responsibility of the post holder. This is predominantly trusts relating to land, rather than personalty.

The duties will involve:-

v      Management of the department and the supervision of a paralegal and secretarial resources.

v      Departmental professional compliance

v      Development of the department, marketing and client retention.

v      Progression of all client’s cases from the point of taking instructions through to conclusion

v      Training of staff and where appropriate presentation to clients in conjunction with the senior director.

v      Billing target attainment.

Your experience since admission will mainly have been in private client work. You will probably have a 2.1 law degree but applications are taken on merit and not dependant necessarily upon academic achievement. A willingness to develop the firm, communicate well and work as part of a team of an old established, but adaptable practice is of the highest importance.

The position is based at our Lichfield office although our client base is predominantly drawn from the Industrial West Midlands. The successful applicant will be expected to spend at least one day per week at our West Bromwich office dealing with new business and existing clients.

This is a challenging, stimulating and exciting role. Only applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to client care should consider applying.

Salary range is £29,000.00- £36,000.00 per annum according to experience and qualification, plus performance driven bonus.

Start date- early Autumn 2010.

The process of application will include an initial telephone interview followed by a final interview at which applicants may be expected to make a short presentation and finally by detailed assessment. Full details will be provided to successful applicants.CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS 27 AUGUST 2010

Solicitor- Specialist Property ServicesRef. number

Adcocks provides a wide range of property services to its client base and has done for the whole of the 100 years since it was established. Over the last 20 years the practice has undertaken an increasing volume of specialist property work principally in Leasehold Reform and Landlord and Tenant areas. Adcocks is now established as a fore runner in this area in the Midlands and has a growing client base of both landlords and tenants, in the Midlands, the UK and in America.

Our client base includes tenants exercising the right to enfranchise for the freehold of their homes or extended leases of their flats, Right to Manage applications, Right to Enfranchise applications in respect of flats and houses and the sale and purchase of ground rents for institutional and private landlords.

Whilst this area of work has seen a considerable decline during the recession, we are predicting rapid growth as the property market emerges from its current sleepy state and the need for tenants to exercise their rights to ensure that market values are obtained. This produces opportunities in the practice acting for both tenants and landlords alike in pursuing or as the case may be, resisting enfranchisement claims.

This predicted growth results in a vacancy arising in this department in the late Autumn of 2010. We are therefore looking for a suitably experienced Solicitor of not less than 1 year PQE to fulfil this role and to join a team of 4 lawyers dealing with this area of work.

The responsibilities will include:-

V      Assisting in marketing presentations with other team members.

V      Deputising for other team members during their absence from the office.

V      Assisting with the progression of cases in the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal, but not necessarily   including advocacy.

We anticipate appointing a Solicitor with not less than one years solid post-qualification, property experience. A thorough grounding in property work will be necessary and although full training will be given to the successful candidate, applicants who can demonstrate experience in this area may be given preference.

Whilst there will be an opportunity to further develop skills using the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal Service, it is unlikely that candidates will be expected to demonstrate advocacy or other semi-contentious experience in this area.

It is anticipated that the vacancy will result in an appointment commencing around 1 October 2010.

Candidates with a 2.1 law degree may be given preference. However, all applications will be considered on merit.

The process of application will include an initial telephone interview followed by a final interview at which applicants may be expected to make a short presentation and finally by detailed assessment. Full details will be provided to successful applicants. CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS 27 AUGUST 2010
